It’s the definition of a win-win … or win-win-win, as it were: E.ON :agile has joined forces with IBM’s accelerator Alpha Zone to boost promising Israeli startups and intensify E.ON’s presence in the Israeli startup scene. E.ON’s clear goal is to help Israeli startups set up pilots with the business units and by this enabling access to deep-tech innovations for E.ON .Beginning of 2020 , their joint accelerator approach will provide participants with a wealth of industry experience and synergy effects between the two partners.
As the key player on the European energy sector, E.ON brings to the table not only top-notch energy expertise but also the capacity to open doors to the European markets. Besides a strong mentorship program, E.ON offers startups pilot projects within their organization and customer base as well as in the grid business. The partnership with IBM is a logical fit as both companies share an interest in key emerging technologies, including machine learning, IoT, AI, connected mobility, and cyber-digital solutions for various industries. Their shared values and beliefs while working with startups also makes the two partners a good match.
“IBM Alpha Zone is well established and the ideal partner to expand our scouting scope beyond Europe. Our aim is to contribute with our energy expertise. The startups should benefit from E.ON’s strong standing in the European market which offers them the potential volume they need to make their business take off,” says Inga Land, Managing Director of :agile accelerator GmbH.
Israel is called the startup nation. Few countries have that many entrepreneurs per square meter but on the other hand the domestic market potential is limited. That is why Israeli startups are keen to expand to the US, Chinese or European market.
Scouting for the first joint startup accelerator class (January through June 2020) will commence in September. Israeli startups that are interested and see a fit to IBM and E.ON should submit their applications via the Alpha Zone Website. Pitch Day/Selection Day for the first accelerator class is scheduled for the beginning of December.
