On January 20th, :agile startup Enerthing won the “Handelsblatt Energy Awards” that takes place once a year to honor outstanding projects of the German energy landscape. This is the 2nd prestigious award that the startup won in the last 2 years – in 2018 the startup received the Next Economy Award in category "Technology".
The startup from Leverkusen has developed scalable and maintenance-free IoT solution powered by light. Their photovoltaic technology converts artificial (indoor) light into electricity thus allowing autonomous operation of IoT devices. By tailoring the device to the application Enerthing´s solution extracts more power from ambient light than commonly used batteries and translates it in a gain in performance, such as higher data rates and quality of data.
The startup has won the award in the category start-up, where they competed with 56 companies in total. The prize has once again shown the growing interest in sustainable IoT products. “This was beyond our expectations and we appreciate that our mission to enable better and new IoT solutions in new spaces gets such a recognition,” says Michael Niggemann, Founder and Managing Director of Enerthing.
Enerthing has started their journey with E.ON in September 2019. “We are very proud that :agile startup Enerthing has won the award. Their maintenance-free solution open-up new possibilities in the areas of sensors for building automation, asset tracking and indoor navigation. At E.ON, we are currently looking into applying it in various areas,“ says Matthias Holder, Venture Developer at E.ON :agile.
